Ed & Laura Webster Memorial
Vocational Scholarships
One of Rotary's Avenues of Service
is Vocational Service.
Vocational service focuses on:
- Adherence to, and promotion
of, the highest ethical standards in all occupations,
including fair treatment
of employers, employees, associates, competitors,
and the public.
- The recognition of the worthiness of all useful
occupations, not just your own or those
that are pursued by Rotarians.
- The contribution of your vocational talents
to the problems and needs of society.
- The values expressed in The 4-Way Test
and the Declaration for Rotarians in
Business and Professions,
which
promote high ethical standards in
the workplace,
a central theme
of Rotary throughout its history.
One part of the Sharpstown Rotary Club's
educational support is always given to students in the
vocational training arena. These scholarships are named
after the Sharpstown Rotarian who began the tradition
about 40 years ago, and his wife who continued support
of club activites after his death.
Each year the club works with ITT Technical
Institute to provide scholarships to deserving students
enrolled in ITT's vocation education programs. The club
funds a portion of the scholarship and ITT matches the
club's funding. The funds for these scholarships come
from the club's weekly "Sunshine News" feature at luncheons
where members and visitors pay for the right to announce
good news, tell a joke or mention some special event
they are involved in.
Here are three of the winners for the
Ed and Laura Webster Memorial Scholarships presented
in March 2004:
